Our Mission:
The Heart of the Valley Chorus is a local chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit organization dedicated to
the promotion and enjoyment of four part harmony singing for women of all ages around the world. Its purpose is to educate
members in the art of singing a capella music, barbershop style.
Who are we?
The Heart of the Valley Chorus was established twenty eight years ago as The Mount Sugarloaf Chorus. Our new name, taken
in spring of 2002, reflects a new rehearsal area in Northampton. We sing a variety of music: Jazz, Broadway, Vaudeville and
Contemporary. The chorus performs at community events and private functions. We also participate in a yearly regional competition
in Springfield's Symphony Hall with other Northeast Sweet Adeline chapters. Since its inception, the chorus has had numerous
first, second and third place awards at these competitions. Members of the Heart of the Valley Chorus vary in
age from 20 to 74. We are cooks, teachers, college students, hairdressers, retirees, homemakers, real estate managers, bus
drivers, administrative assistants, business owners, and more. Each member brings a unique voice and personality to this warm
and friendly group of eclectic women. Our director, Maggie Hawlicheck, is herself a member of a championship chorus, Sound
of New England, based in Connecticut. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-9:30pm at J.F.K. Middle School
in Northampton. Click on "Map and Directions" at left for driving instructions.
